GPOY - I don’t know edition XD

2012 is not the end of the world. There have always been, and always will be disasters, tragedies, death, and everything else seemingly associated with this belief. Case in point:

Top ten deadliest natural disasters:

526 Antioch earthquake - Death toll 250,000–300,000
1556 Shaanxi earthquake - Death toll 830,000
1839 India Cyclone - Death toll 300,000
1887 Yellow River flood - Death toll 900,000–2,000,000
1920 Haiyuan earthquake - Death toll 234,117
1931 China floods - Death toll 1,000,000–2,500,000
1970 Bhola cyclone - Death toll 500,000
1976 Tangshan earthquake - Death toll 242,419 - 650,000
2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami - Death toll 230,210
2010 Haiti earthquake - Death toll 316,000
Death tolls are estimates.*

That was just natural disasters such as earthquakes, this doesn’t include such events as The Influenza Epidemic of 1918 which is cited as the most devastating pandemic in recorded world history and claimed more lives that World War I among hundreds of other tragic events.

Keep in mind that I’m not saying shit happens get over it, as my heart completely goes out to those effected by current events, and all events prior. I’ve always donated money to aid in tragedies, and I will donate to relief efforts for recent events once they’ve been directly established to help with what’s going on in the Pacific - Asia region as I would hope anyone who can would do. You can donate to a lot of general sites such as the Red Cross, but I would like to ensure mine goes directly to this cause, and at the time of writing this(3am) no direct donation sites have been set up. I will post a link once I come across one though. I’m purely saying that I don’t believe 2012 is anything to hide under your desk from, as it’s simply just another year, nothing more than a span of time in which disasters may or may not happen, but by no means is the world coming to an end.

One of the worst things is being taken for granted.

Most of the time I’m ok with this, as I’m not an idiot and for the most part realize this world, is an extremely selfish place. If anyone ever does anything for me I will always ask politely, and without fail say thank you, bare minimum, no matter how big or small the geasture, sadly today that’s seemingly becoming a thing of the past. Day in, day out I do things actually a lot of things and I never hassle anyone about it, or make them feel guilty about it. For example my blog had gotten to the point where I was answering dozens of advice questions daily(now it’s all being done on enlight3n.me), and I rarely ever got a thank you in return. I get texts/IM’s from complete strangers I’m assuming from Tumblr asking for it and I’ll give it and then they’ll never say anything back. I pay for the internet, and my brothers phone at home all things he apparently takes for granted because I never get a thank you. Working at a call center consulting on mortgages and such I can tell you I talk to hundreds of people every month, and a lot don’t say thank you for helping them with a few 100k purchase/loan as if it’s no big deal. I could go on and on, point is a simple thank you takes little to no effort and goes an extremely long way.

Trust is a funny thing.

There are two ways people generally look at it, either you believe someone must earn your trust, or you trust someone right off the bat until they do something to lose it. I’m a huge advocate of the latter, meaning I like giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, and trusting them without them having to prove a single thing to me.   Life has seemingly made the idea of just giving trust a thing of the past, because experience says that people are more then likely going to break that trust, take it for granted, and use you. Protecting yourself by making people earn your trust first thus ensuring you’re not going to get hurt is a good thing don’t get me wrong. However I feel like this isn’t the way to fully live life.   I’ve learned that by closing yourself off to people right off the bat, by nature you’re instantly not as engaging, not as open to ideas, and to be honest just not as much fun(I’m not looking for a debate ;p). I feel like by closing yourself off for fear of getting hurt, you’re keeping out a lot of pretty amazing experiences.   In general I think people are too scared to get hurt, which is completely understandable, but I wish people could see that the rewards that you get if things work out completely outweigh any pain. Pain is only temporary, yes breakups hurt, no matter what the reason, but caring for someone, and potentially even loving someone has such an amazing feeling tied to it which as far as I’m concerned completely outweighs any risk of getting hurt.

5T4S

This has to be one of the most absurd things I’ve seen on Tumblr yet, and trust me as someone that’s been here for a very long time I’ve seen some dumb things, but this takes the cake.

News flash guys, just because we were here first doesn’t make us any better then anyone else. I loved Tumblr because nobody seemingly discriminated against people, all ideas in every manifestation were allowed to be shared, yet now we’re trying to separate the people who’ve been here longer.

Do you remember what it was like when you first joined? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I was a tad intimidated, but everyone welcomed me with open arms, and I felt apart of something very special, and now everyone who joins from here on out isn’t going to get that feeling, because somehow for some unknown to me reason they’re beneath you guys?

Tumblr is amazing, and as such was bound to be advertised on MTV and such, don’t get me wrong I liked when we were the little engine that could, the site nobody heard of but still it’s members supported strongly, but I personally am proud of how big Tumblr’s gotten, and the fact that more and more people are going to be able to find out and about it and enjoy it.

This is just stupid, I mean really I’m at a complete loss for words, I guess I expected more from Tumblr’s original members, but maybe some of their egos got a little too big. </rant>

Edit: aparently it’s 5T4S as if I care -_-
